Founder and Secretary Step Down After Long Service

At the society’s AGM on 01 April long standing trustee and secretary David Widden, and founder trustee Janet Fernau MBE, chose to step down from the board and not seek re-election.

Janet in particular is well known to many of the society’s members, having created the charity in 1990 and served as director ever since. She was recognised for her work when she was awarded the MBE by Her Majesty the Queen. Having stepped down as chair with some ceremony in 2015 Janet asked that her resignation was “not marked by any fuss” this year.

The board extends their thanks to both David and Janet for their service and dedication.

At the meeting chairman Howard Don announced that the society would be seeking new trustees over the next few months, and that the board was presently undertaking a “skills audit” to identify the experience and talent required.

In the meantime, the appointments of three trustees last year were formally endorsed by the meeting; Lisa Flude, Corrina Towers and Roger Keyte all joined in 2015.
