Northern Ireland Patient Information Day, Belfast, Tuesday 10 October 2017

The Northern Ireland Patient Information Day (PID) is a one-day event organised by the society to provide information to suffers of haemochromatosis and their families.

ireland-28617_1280The PID is for patients, family members, and others with an interest in the condition. This is an opportunity to hear from renowned medical and other speakers, take part in wide-ranging question-and-answer sessions, and to meet and talk to others who are affected by GH.

THS will welcome medical professionals to speak about the condition and the management of its symptoms. Our experts will be able to provide in-depth and up to date information as well as answering questions.

Our first speaker is Dr. Jeremy Shearman, Consultant Gastroenterologist and expert in Haemochromatosis.

Dr Jeremy Shearman is a consultant gastroenterologist and hepatologist in Warwick. After completing his undergraduate medical training in Leeds he moved to Oxford for his specialist training. In 1993 he undertook a period of research joining the Molecular Haematology Unit in Oxford making a significant contribution to the project mapping human chromosome six in pursuit of the haemochromatosis gene. After completinShearman Jeremy Dr. (RJC) Cons Gastroenterologistg his DPhil thesis in 1996 he returned to clinical practice and has continued to express a specific interest in the clinical management of iron disorders ever since.

Dr. Shearman is extremely experienced in both treatment and research of haemochromatosis and will be able to provide valuable information about the condition.

We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Patrick Kiely will also be speaking for us on the subject of GH related arthropathy. patrick_kiely_large-e1379275267355Dr Patrick Kiely is a lead consultant rheumatologist. He has a specialist interest in haemochromatosis arthropathy and has spoken at our main conference earlier this year.

Our third speaker is Paula McGurk RD PhD, Clinical Specialist Diabetes Dietitian. Who will speak on the subject of diet and Haemochromatosis.

The PID will be held at The Europa Belfast. Great Victoria Street, Belfast, County Antrim, BT2 7AP

Members and their guest can purchase tickets at £10 each and this includes refreshments and a light lunch.

Non-member tickets are available at £15 per person.
