The Northern Ireland Patient Information Day (PID) was a one-day event organised by the society to provide information to sufferers of haemochromatosis and their families.
The PID attracted patients, family members, and others with an interest in the condition. It was an opportunity to hear from renowned medical and other speakers, take part in wide-ranging question-and-answer sessions, and to meet and talk to others who are affected by GH.
THS welcomed medical professionals to speak about the condition and the management of its symptoms. Our experts were able to provide in-depth and up to date information as well as answering questions.
Our first speaker was Dr. Dave Das, Consultant Gastroenterologist and expert in Haemochromatosis.
Dr Das is a long term friend and supported of THS and was able to give an overview of the condition and the science behind the symptoms.
Dr. Patrick Kiely also spoke for us on the subject of GH related arthropathy. Dr Patrick Kiely is a lead consultant rheumatologist. He has a specialist interest in haemochromatosis arthropathy and spoke at our main conference earlier this year.
Our third speaker was Paula McGurk RD PhD, Clinical Specialist Diabetes Dietitian. Who spoke on the subject of diet and Haemochromatosis.
The PID was held at The Europa Belfast and was extremely well attended. There was a buzz in the room and we are hopeful that the event will lead to the formulation of a local support group.
